“Roche Miette, in Jasper National Park. The origin of the name Roche Miette seems to be rather murky. A park interpreter suggested that “Miette” was a French Voyaguer who may have travelled with David Thompson. “Roche” is French for rock. I hiked up to a lofty perch to capture this view. The dead quiet was interrupted by a screaming child. A man was pushing a stroller up the rather steep trail that I had used followed by three blonde children and a woman. One of the young boys wandered over to me and watched as I painted. He asked, “Where is the man that carried all of my gear?” For the first time in my life I was speechless!”
